For the written examination of WBSSC Group C (Clerk), there are four subjects i.e 1. General Knowledge, 2. Current Affairs, 3. General English and 4. Arithmetic.

| General English | Candidates understanding of the fundamentals of the English language such as Vocabulary, Grammar, Sentence structure, Synonyms, Antonyms and its correct usage etc. would be tested. | 15 |
| Arithmetic | Questions of this component will cover number system including questions on simplification, decimals, Recurring Decimals, Divisibility, fractions LCM, HCF, Partnership, Average, Ratio and proportions, percentage, profit and loss, discount, simple interest, time and work, time and distance. | 15 |

WBSSC Group D Syllabus
For the WBSSC Group D written exam, the syllabus is almost same with Group C. Only General English not included in Group D Exam.

WBSSC Group C (Clerk) and Group D Exam Pattern
General Knowledge : For both Group C (Clerk) and Group D, Questions in General Knowledge comes from Static GK, Madhyamik level Biology, Physics, Chemistry, History and Geography. Basic of Computer awareness.
Current Affairs : Daily current events. Will also include current events relating to India and other countries especially pertaining to Sports, History, Literature, Culture, Geography, Economic Science, Polity, Indian Constitution and Scientific research etc.
General English : It’s only for Group C (Clerk) candidates. Fundamentals of English language such as Vocabulary, Grammar, Sentence structure, Synonyms, Antonyms and its correct usage etc.
Arithmetic : Madhyamik level Arithmetic. Need to follow Arithmetic from Class VI to Class X. It will cover number system including questions on simplification, decimals, Recurring Decimals, Divisibility, fractions LCM, HCF, Partnership, Average, Ratio and proportions, percentage, profit and loss, discount, simple interest, time and work, time and distance.
